Obituary

Daniel M. Dunlop, 86 of Derry, NH died Saturday December 7, 2013 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, Derry. Mr. Dunlop was born in Somerville, MA on August 20, 1927 a son of the late John and Mary (McFadyen) Dunlop. He was raised and educated in Quincy, MA and later served with the US Marine Corp shortly after WWII. He was a resident of Derry for the past four years, formerly living in Manchester, NH. Mr. Dunlop worked for several companies including the Gillette Corp. where he was employed as a lab technician. He was an avid Red Sox and NE Patriots fan. Daniel enjoyed running when he was younger and finished the Boston Marathon several times. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynne Roper and her husband James of Bedford, NH, seven grandchildren, Stephane Hebert of Switzerland, Scott Roper of Lyndeborough, NH, Neal Roper of Westwood, MA, Andrew Roper of Manchester, NH, Matthew Roper of Brooklyn, NY, Jeffrey Roper of Bedford, NH, and Richard Kennealy of Hopewell Junction, NY, eleven great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mary Steele of GA, Elizabeth Beliveau of IL, and Jean Abbott of MA. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Mr. Dunlop was predeceased by his wife, Jean C. (Ayers) Dunlop in 2009 and by his daughter, Carol Cortazar.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday December 11, 2013 from 6 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Following cremation, private burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
