Obituary

FLANAGAN, Anne P. (Kane). Formerly of Lexington, MA, and Salem, NH, died peacefully on December 5, 2013 at the Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, surrounded by her family. Born January 26, 1927 in Methuen, MA. Daughter of the late John J. and Kathryn J. (Conley) Kane of Salem, NH, she was the wife of 61 years to LTC (Ret.) Robert W. Flanagan, the mother to Robert W. Flanagan, Jr, and his wife Pamela of Nashua, NH, Kathryn A. Flanagan and her husband Stephen Murray of Baltimore, MD, and Joan M. Lowrie and her husband Thomas of Augusta, ME. She was grandmother to Thomas Lowrie, Robert Lowrie, and Colleen Lowrie of Augusta, Eric Fischbach of Lexington, MA, and Roisin and Mairin Flanagan of Nashua. She was the sister of the late Constance Flanagan and her husband Eugene and the sister of Mary Breen of Salem, NH, and Joan Seliger of Amarillo, TX, and John P. Kane and his wife Nancy of Canton, GA. She was a graduate of Lawrence (MA) High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Boston University in 1948 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of New Hampshire in 1982. Early in her career she was superintendent of music in Littletown, RI and assistant superintendent of music in Harvard, Littleton and Stow, MA. She was an elementary education teacher in South Bend, IN and Salem, NH. Later in her career she became a prize-winning artist known for her watercolors and portraits, especially of her beloved husband. She was also noted for her landscapes and oils. She was an active member for over 30 years of the St. Matthew Parish in Windham, NH. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 10:30 AM in Saints Mary and Joseph Parish at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Road in Salem, NH, followed by a graveside ceremony at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
