Obituary

NATICK: Robert S. Wells, Sr., age 77, a former longtime Natick resident, died surrounded by his family on Thursday morning, December 5, 2013, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was the loving husband of Anna (Carr) Wells for 56 years.

Born and raised in Natick, he was a son of the late William L. and V. “Tommy” (Thompson) Wells. Bob was a 1954 graduate of Natick High School where he merited four varsity letters: baseball, golf, football, and basketball. After continuing his education at Southern Illinois University, he joined his father and brother working at Wells Shoe of Natick.

Bob and Anna made a home in Natick for their growing family. In 1967, he opened his own store, Wells Shoe of Needham, which he operated until 1985. From then until the present he operated R.S. Wells Enterprises, providing industrial and business supplies to his customers. Bob remained an avid golfer throughout his life and was a member of golf groups in Framingham, Marlborough, and Walpole. He was a 50 year veteran of Meridian Lodge AF & AM, and a longtime member of the Natick Benevolent Protective Order of Elks #1425, and the Natick Rotary Club. Bob had also been a member of the Natick Business Association and the New England Retailers’ Association.

Devoted beyond measure to his family, he is survived by Anna; their children, Kim M. Navarro and husband Peter of Billerica, Robert S. Wells, Jr. of Natick, Karen A. Anzivino and husband Michael of Ashland, and Linda S. Havener and husband Rob of Natick; and seven grandchildren, Robert W., Timothy, Amanda, Megan, Marissa, Cory, and Hillary. Brother of the late Richard T. “Dick” Wells, he is also survived by many wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be in the First Congregational Church of Natick, 2 East Central Street, Natick, on Tuesday, Dec. 10th at 2:00p.m. Burial will be private. Visiting hours at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common on Monday 4 – 7p.m. Donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Natick VNA, 209 West Central Street, Natick, MA 01760.
