Obituary

Normand T. Dufour age 60, of Brockton, died peacefully Wednesday December 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband for 41 years of Cheryl A, (Hood) Dufour and cherished father of Renee Nelson and her husband Clint and Chawnna Ballard and her husband John. He was also the loving grandfather of Jessica, John Michael, Joseph, Taylor, Steve and Alena.

Normand was born in West Stewardstown, NH a son of Lucia Dufour of West Bridgewater and the late Omer Dufour and had been a resident of Brockton for over 40 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Brockton High School. Normand was a lifelong hockey player and he instilled his love of the game by teaching his grandchildren to skate and coaching his granddaughter Jessica at the Cape Cod Canal Youth Hockey League. Since his youth, he had been an avid outdoorsman having hunted with his mother, father and brothers.

Instilled with a strong work ethic by his father, Normand was dedicated to his work in a family run business. He was the vice president of operations at LD Plastics in Brockton. Prior to that, he was a business partner with his brother Regis at Dufour’s Plastics in Hartford, CT from 1984-1993. He was also a political activist in the City of Brockton and supported the work of Mayor Linda Balzotti. For many years he had been a volunteer for the Campello High Rise, Building B. He was a mentor and surrogate father to many.

Normand was the brother of Marguerite Darling of Portland, Maine; Mariette Thomas of Brockton; Caroline Michel of Prince George, Virginia; Lina Dufour of Dedham; Regis Dufour of West Roxbury; Anita Harlfinger of No. Easton; Bernadette Braden of Hampton, Virginia; Raymond Dufour of Chesterfield, Virginia and the late Yvan Dufour of Meridian, Idaho. He leaves his mother-in-law of Gladys Hood of Brockton and many nieces and nephews.

Normand’s family invite friends and family to a Celebration of his Life on Saturday December 7, 2013 in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton from 5-9 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, his family would prefer you make a donation in Normand’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
