Obituary

John “Jack” Thomas Johnston, 88, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Signal Mountain, TN.
Mr. Johnston was a native of Salem, NH, who proudly served his country during World War II, and married his childhood sweetheart, the late Lillian Gilmore Johnston, also a native of Salem, NH, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her death in 2006. Mr. Johnston graduated from Southeastern University, first in his class, and was the Treasurer of Wilks Precision Instrument Company prior to his retirement in 1995.
He was a resident of Bethesda, MD, for over 40 years, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, swimming, and was an avid reader throughout his life. Mr. Johnston was a standout father, brother, grandparent, uncle and cherished friend who was also a beloved gentleman of impeccable integrity, grace, humor, and humility.
Survivors include his son, Dr. John T. Johnston and Cynthia (wife) of Signal Mountain, TN, daughter, Debra E. Johnston of Bethesda, MD, three grandchildren (Alexandra Johnston, Ginnie Lynn Moran, and Timothy Moran), 10 great grandchildren, Beatrice Leriche (sister), and numerous extended family members.
A Graveside Service and internment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH, on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 12 noon. Flowers in celebration of his life may be sent to Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.
