Obituary

SALEM- Joseph J. Tina, 88, husband of Flora T. (DiMambro) Tina, of Salem, died Saturday, October 2, 2004 in the Salem Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Spata) Tina.

An Army veteran of WWII, he attained the rank of Corporal, served with the 783rd Air Material Squadron in the European and Middle Eastern Theaters and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed by the City of Salem in the Park Department for over 15 years. He previously worked at the former Thomas O’Keefe Leather Company in Salem

A lifelong resident of Salem, he was a member of the Vittori Rocci Post, Beverly, The Christopher Columbus Society and the former St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem. He was a member of the DAV and the VFW, Witch City Post #1524 of Salem.

An avid golfer, Mr. Tina also enjoyed tennis and bowling and was a member of the Salem Municipal Golf Association.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons, John and his wife Donna Tina of Bonaire, Georgia, Stephen and his wife Debi Tina of Beverly, two daughters, Maria Tina and her husband John Stanchfield of Marblehead, Patricia Pomakis and her companion Mark Blair of Ipswich, five grandchildren, Matthew Tina of Marblehead, Jamie Pomakis, Jessica Pomakis, both of Ipswich, Elizabeth Tina, Alex Tina, both of Beverly, one brother Guy and his wife Rita Tina of Salem, one sister, Josephine Velardi of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 8 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 am at Ste. Anne’s Church, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
