Obituary

Robert E. (Bob) of Weymouth, MA and Marco Island, FL passed away on November 23, peacefully after a short but valiant battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family at his Marco Island home. Devoted husband for 43 years of Meredith R. (Richardson) and adored father of Sarah and Robert Iandoli of Malden, Carrie Letham, and Robert Letham of Weymouth, he is also survived by his brother William R. Letham of Middleboro, and caring sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
As a young man, Bob played an active role at St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Wollaston where he directed the Altar Boy Guild. He was a member of the North Quincy High School, class of 1949, and went on to graduate from Northeastern University in 1954. Bob served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was sent to Stuttgart, Germany where he developed a lifelong affinity for Mercedes Benz. In 1957 Bob started his 37 year career with John Hancock Insurance Company’s Real Estate Investment Division, ultimately rising to Senior Investment Officer. Bob had many varied interests and joined the Weymouth Continental Marines during the Bicentennial Period; his unit proudly stood honor guard for President Ford and Queen Elizabeth, and also participated in numerous July 4th turnarounds of the U.S.S. Constitution. After retiring, Bob focused his considerable talents on home restoration, wood carving and gardening. He purchased and restored a circa 1792 house on Route 53 in Norwell. When the restoration was complete he opened a shop, The RELM Works, where he displayed and sold his unique and intricate wood carvings and antiques. The Weymouthport Condominium grounds showcase Bob’s amazing gardening abilities, as he spent countless hours patiently tending them over the last several years.
Bob will be buried in the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on Monday December 9 and a Prayer Service at St. Jerome’s Church in North Weymouth will be held at on Saturday, December 21 at 10:30 AM.
