Obituary


John Hambarian, 86, of Rockland, formerly of Abington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the South Shore Rehabilitation on Monday December 2nd. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Leona (Dresselaers) Hambarian.

He was born and brought up in South Boston, son of the late Minus and Mariam (Parsekian) Hambarian and was a graduate of South Boston High School.

John was a resident of Hough’s Neck in Quincy then a resident of Abington for 35 years before moving to Rockland 11 years ago.

He served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1950-1952 and after 60 years of his discharge he just received his purple heart along with 7 other medals. He was known for his quick wit and a sassy sense of humor. He loved to gamble and traveled to Las Vegas and Atlantic City also the Raynham Dog Track. John also enjoyed football both Pro and college.

In addition to his beloved wife Leona, he is survived by his daughters, Joyce Oliveira and her husband Ed of Abington, Sharon Hambarian of Rockland, MaryLou Barnes and her husband Kevin of Wareham and Johnna Lewis and her late husband Edward of Rockland, his sisters Victoria Hambarian, Virginia Gothard both of Virginia and the late Louise Pfizenmayer; also many brother and sisters in-laws, his grandchildren Kristianne, Nicholas, Marissa, Kurt John, Michelle Ann, David and Deirdre and his goddaughter Lilly Ann Dresselaers, many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held on Friday December 6th at 9:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St.(Rt 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the MA National Cemetery at 11:15 in Bourne, MA. His Visitation will be on Thursday December 5th from 4:00-8:00PM. Donations may be made in his name to the Shakedown Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at any Rockland Trust Company.
