Worcester, MA - James M. Garrett, 69, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Catherine E. (Foley) and James J. Garrett. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen (Garrett) Hannon in 1996. Jim is survived by his loving children, Kelly A. Garrett of Providence, RI, Michael J. Garrett of Worcester, and Jennifer D. Garrett of Williamsburg; his aunt Rita A. Foley of Harwich; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim spent his entire career working for Saint-Gobain (formerly Norton Company), first in Worcester as a quality control specialist in abrasives and later at the Northborough location as a materials engineer. He retired in 2005. In his free time, Jim pursued a variety of interests. When his children were young, he volunteered as a coach for the Worcester Youth Soccer league. A lifelong outdoorsman, Jim made yearly trips both to the outer Cape for shore bass fishing and to northern Maine to hunt deer. He also had a profound interest in history, and enjoyed taking road trips each spring to visit important historical landmarks.
The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 5, at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester. Please go directly to the church. Burial will be at a later date.
