GLOUCESTER – Betty (Tarr) Nicastro, 86, formerly of Curtis Clark Park, died Saturday morning, November 30, 2013, at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Baptista “Thida” Nicastro, who died in March of 1995.
Born in Gloucester on April 17, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Alice M. Tarr. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and graduate of the Gloucester High School. Betty had been employed by the former LePages for many years.
Her fondest memories revolve around family gatherings and dancing with her sweetheart, “Nicky.”
Among a host of nieces and nephews, she is survived by her special niece and caregiver, Jane Muise and her family, as well as her sister-in-law, Christine Tarr. She also leaves behind her stepchildren, Sera Orlando, Diane, wife of William Hopkinson, Cookie, wife of Chet Smith, John, husband of Julie (Arnold) Nicastro; sons-in-law, Carleton Costa, and Vincent, husband of Cynthia Asaro, thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. The youngest of eight, she was predeceased by three sisters, Kathleen Baptiste, Dorothy Nugent and Priscilla Kyrouz; four brothers, William “Washy” Tarr, Arthur “Buddy” Tarr, Robert “Buster” Tarr and Edward “Sonny” Tarr; stepdaughters, Phyllis Asaro and Carol Costa, stepson, Jeremiah “Jerry” Nicastro, and son-in-law, Dominic Orlando.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30.
