Gene Rhodes, 71, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, December 1, 2013, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Donnie Rhodes, the Rev. Bill Rutledge, and the Rev. Jimmy Cargle officiating. Interment will follow in the Abba Cemetery, Ben Hill County. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Rhodes was born October 31, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Alvin and Calista Mae McCarty Rhodes. He lived in the community for the past 13 years, moving from Birmingham, Alabama. He worked in health management and was former owner/operator of the Rhodes Group, a local trucking company. Mr. Rhodes was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved all and was loved by all. He was a member of West Side Baptist Church. His favorite past time was watching Alabama college football...ROLL TIDE!!
He is survived by his wife: Pat Rhodes of Irwin County; daughter: Gena and Rev. Bill Rutledge of Birmingham, Alabama; two sons: Jamie Rhodes of Birmingham, Alabama and Rev. Donnie and Aprille Rhodes of Atlanta; grandchildren: Kathryn Rutledge, William Rutledge, John Rutledge, Anna Rutledge, Payton Rhodes and Taylor Rhodes; his two favorite grand-dogs: J. Bo and Sissy; two brothers: Al & Patsy Rhodes of Marietta and Bob & Frieda Rhodes of Birmingham, Alabama. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Stephanie Rhodes and his infant twin brother.
