Obituary

CHICOPEE – Robert J. Tremblay, 77, of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in LaPatrie, Province of Quebec, Canada on January 15, 1936, a beloved son of the late Mathias and Mayrosa (Carrier) Tremblay. He was raised in LaPatrie, Canada and moved to Springfield in 1957 where he lived until moving to Chicopee in 1960. He was employed for over 39 years as a truck driver for the H.P. Hood Company in Agawam and was later employed for the Alan Ritchey Company. He was a member since 1977 of the Moose Family Center in Chicopee Falls and a former Boy Scout Leader and Scout Master. During his younger years, Robert was a coach and manager of the Brittany Lounge softball team. Robert was a family man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He was a longtime communicant of the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Jeannine T. (Chauvin) Tremblay. They were married on May 21, 1960 at Sainte Anne Church in Sutton, Massachusetts and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his four loving children, Terry M. Tetreault of Chicopee, Richard P. Tremblay and his wife, Debbie, of North Troy, VT, Diane Gallagher and her husband, Michael, of Chicopee, and Joanne C. Sowa and her husband, Paul, of Granby; his eight cherished grandchildren, Tina Tetreault and her husband, Nicholas Chartier, Gabrielle, Hannah, Matthias, and Christine Tremblay, Steven and Kevin Gallagher, and Kendal Sowa; his two cherished great-grandsons, Tyler and Brayden Chartier; his dear sister, Carmen Tremblay Dumont and her husband, Real, of LaPrairie, P.Q., Canada; his dear sister-in-law, Denise F. (Spooner) Tremblay of Chicopee; his dear sister-in-law of the Chauvin family, Lillian Chauvin Boucher of Canada; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Tremblay and Chauvin families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving son-in-law, Charles Tetreault who was Called Home on December 19, 1986; his dear brother, Jean-Noel P. Tremblay who was Called Home on August 10, 2003; and his five dear brothers-in-law of the Chauvin family. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, November 30, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
