Obituary

Daniel J. “Bones” Hayden, 83, passed away suddenly at his home on November 26, 2013.

Dan was born in Portland, ME, on October 31, 1930, as the fifth of eight children born to Daniel and Margaret (Donahue) Hayden.

He graduated from Chevrus High School in Portland, ME in 1949 where he excelled at Track and Field. Upon graduation he joined the Air Force during the Korean War.

In 1954, he met the love of his life, Mary Catherine “Susie” Conley, who he was married to for over 57 years. In 1986, Dan retired from New England Telephone where he spent his entire 33 year career.

Dan spent countless hours volunteering his time for the Manchester Swim Team where all 5 of his children swam for many years. He was a long time communicant of St. Catherine Parish and the Precious Blood Monastery. Dan also was a member of Intervale Country Club where he had the same foursome for over 20 years.

However, his true passion was spending time with his family and most recently the various sports fields, courts, tracks, pools, and gymnastics mats where his grandchildren competed locally.

He leaves his wife Susie, three sons, Paul V. Hayden of Merrimack, John J. Hayden and his wife LeeAnne Hayden of Manchester, Michael T. Hayden and his wife Hollie Hayden of Thousand Oaks, CA., and two daughters, Jane A. Gatsas and her husband John of Manchester and Jean M. Mitchell and her husband Joe also of Manchester. His eleven grandchildren Dan, Erin, Jake, Hayden, Emily, Phillip, Ryan, Abigail, Jess, Bobby and Molly.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at St. Catherine Church in Manchester, NH.

Burial will be in the NH State Veteran's Cemetery, Boscawen, at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that one donate to a charity of their choosing.
