GLOUCESTER: Elaine L. (MacKenney) Kearsey, 89, formerly of East Main Street, died Monday evening in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late John J. Kearsey, who died in February of 1981.
Born in Somersworth, New Hampshire on February 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Horace L. and Lillian (Russell) MacKenney. She had resided in Ipswich for thirty-five years, before moving to Gloucester in 1960.
She had been employed by Sylvania from 1942 to 1949 and worked as a waitress at the Marguery and the Lamp Post Inn. She had also worked at Bob’s Clam Shack.
Elaine enjoyed spending time in her yard gardening and was also an avid painter. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of the North Shore for the care and comfort given to Elaine.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Marcia Ann and Joel DiLiberti of Gloucester and Sharon Louise Kearsey of St. John, Virgin Islands; a grandson, Robert L. Saunders, III, and his wife, Bethanie; four great-grandchildren, Briana, Zachary, Kassie and Ethan Saunders; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Horace L. “Sonny” MacKenney and Robert MacKenney, and two sisters, Thelma Wheeler and Virginia Hill.
Interment will be held privately in the Beechbrook Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Friends of Seacoast, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester, or to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
