John R Guthrie, age 87, of Douglas, GA passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Guthrie was born on May 29, 1926, in Douglas, GA to the late Vasco George Guthrie and Fannie Smith Guthrie.
He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WW II. Mr. Guthrie was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Peggy Dukes Guthrie of Douglas, GA, three sons, John R. (Linda) Guthrie of Prosper, TX, Clint (Cathleen) Guthrie of Westfield, IN, and H. Duke Guthrie of Valdosta, GA, three grandchildren, Tara Guthrie of Westfield, IN, Nichole Anne (Eric) Daluga-Guenther of Terre Haute, IN, and Brooks Guthrie of Austin, TX, brother-in-law, David (Jeanette) Dukes of Douglas, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 6-9 pm.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Vernon and Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.
