Obituary

Donald C. Murphy, a 45 year resident of Stoughton and retired sergeant with the Metropolitan District Commission Police Department, passed away unexpectedly Monday September 27, 2004 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical in Brockton. He was 76 years old. He was the beloved husband of Linda J. (Vitiello).

Born December 12, 1927, in Boston,MA he was the loving son of the late Mr. Jeremiah and Mrs. Bridget ( Galvin) Murphy.

He attended Boston Public Schools.

He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran of World War Two

After serving his country, He was hired by the MDC Police Department and made a career as a police officer working out of the Hull (Nantasket Beach) and South Boston Barracks. He retired after twenty plus years with the rank of sergeant.

Donald loved his family very much.

He was a member of the DAV (Disabled Veterans ) club in Randolph,MA and also was a member of the “RAMP” ( Retired Association of Metropolitan Police) .

His hobbies included hunting and raising his animals, especially his dogs.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his seven children. Deborah A. Ready of Pawtucket,RI and her husband John of Easton,MA, Maureen C. DiStefano and her husband Tony of Stoughton, Daniel F. Murphy and his wife Cindy of Little Compton,RI, Barbara J. Shannon and her husband Michael of Mesa,AZ, Christina M. (Murphy) MacDonald and her husband David of Stoughton, Elizabeth M. Murphy of Stoughton and Nicholas M. Murphy also of Stoughton. He was the cherished grandfather of Alexa and Taryn Ready of Rhode Island, Anthony and Alanna DiStefano of Stoughton, Sara and Ben Murphy also of Rhode Island and Austin and Michela Shannon both of Arizona. He is also survived by his sister in law, Judith Murphy of Newton,MA, several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday October 1, 2004 in the Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street (Off Rt. 138 at the First Federal Savings Bank), Stoughton. At the request of the family, his interment will be private. Visiting hours are on Thursday September 30, 2004 from 6-8 P.M. and also on Friday October 1, 2004 prior to the service from 3-5 P.M. Flowers are welcome.
