Obituary

DUNLEAVY - John J. Dunleavy, 89, peacefully passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, 2013 at his Yulee, FL residence.
He was born September 18, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Yulee in 1990 from Tallahassee, FL after residing in Jacksonville, FL for a number of years.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Fernandina Beach. Mr. Dunleavy held a long and distinguished membership with The Loyal Order of Moose serving in many offices and capacities. He was also a distinguished member of Temple Lodge 23 F & AM for over 51 years. He was a Master Mason and served as Worshipful Master in 1970. He retired from Jacksonville Electric Authority as C & D Department Head in 1974 and with the IRS in Tallahassee in 1988. He also served on the boards of the City Credit Union and the Pension Advisory Board in Jacksonville, FL.
As a veteran of World War II he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the U. S. Navy and was awarded the American Theater Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Kelly and Catherine Chapman.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Virginia L. Dunleavy of Yulee, FL; a son, James L. Taylor (Margaret), also of Yulee; a brother, Gerald Dunleavy (Ginny) of Deerfield Beach, FL; and a grandson, James H. Taylor of Jacksonville, FL.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 27, at 1:30 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Pastor Ida Iverson of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Those attending should arrive at the cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers (the National Cemetery limits flowers) the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Cats Angels of Fernandina Beach or the Humane Society of Jacksonville.
