J.D. Lankford, age 90, of Broxton, GA passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA. Mr. Lankford was born on September 1, 1923 in Douglas, GA to the late James Daniel Lankford and Iris Joyce Lankford.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a former POW and was awarded the bronze star and purple heart. Mr. Lankford retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of Broxton Baptist Church and a Deacon of Broxton Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Debbie Lankford of Broxton, GA, daughter, Christine (Marvin) Knight of Douglas, GA, two brothers, W.C. “Chester”(Joanne) Lankford of Douglas, GA and Raymond (Macy) Lankford of Waycross, GA, five grandchildren, Marshall (Angie) Knight, of Douglas, GA, Amber (Ryan) Hamilton of Marietta, GA, Noah (Shelby) Lankford of Monticello, FL, Sarah Beth Lankford of Monticello, FL, and David Vickers of Oregon, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Sayer Lankford and two sons, Ronald Lankford and Joseph Donald Lankford.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 6-9 pm.
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Broxton Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Wiggly and Rev. Freddy Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Deberry Church Cemetery.
