Obituary

Patti Freed, née Patrice Lydia Cain, died gently on November 5, 2013 in Plymouth, MA. She was born on February 20, 1924 in Indianapolis, IN. In her youth she was a competitive swimmer, an active Camp Fire Girl, an awarded scholar, and a concert harpist. She attended Shortridge H.S. in Indianapolis and went on to earn a B.S. from the Indiana College of Pharmacy in 1945, and an M.S. Pharmacy degree from Purdue University in 1948. She practiced as a hospital pharmacist in MI, IN, OH, and NY.

On December 18, 1948, Patti married Dean Winslow Freed of Bayside, NY, whom she met at Purdue. She skied and traveled worldwide with Dean, and enjoyed volunteering with Seaman’s Service of Cleveland, OH. After a series of relocations required by Dean's career, they settled in Acton and then retired to Duxbury, MA.

Her daughters are Carol Anne Freed Bruml (William) and Kathryn G. Freed Simpson (Lee), both of Ohio. Granddaughters are Sarah K. Bruml and Deborah E. Bruml (Sarah E.); Deborah's son Milo Bruml was born in July, 2013. Patti was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Dean Freed, her brother David Arthur Cain, and an infant son.

She asked that we honor the sacrifices and loving care contributed by her parents, Harriette and Verlin Cain to raise, educate, and guide their children throughout the Depression years and beyond.
