J. D. Gibbs, Sr., 91, of Ty Ty died Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty. Rev. Chad Hall, Dr. Danny Ray and Rev. Jim Duggan will officiate with burial to follow in First Baptist Church of Ty Ty Cemetery. His grandsons, Clyde Blalock, Brian Case, Jackson Drawdy Jr., Joe Hale, Bucky Ethridge, Dennis Sledge, Andy Drawdy, Dewayne Drawdy, Jonathan Gibbs and Dave Gibbs will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 21, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Gibbs will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Gibbs was born on May 13, 1922 in Worth County and was the son of Dave Gibbs and Nancy Hogan Gibbs, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie B. Laster Gibbs, who died in 2008; one son, J. D. Gibbs, Jr.; one son-in-law, Gerald Ethridge; three brothers; and three sisters. He was a retired farmer and actively farmed all his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ty Ty. He served as a medic in the United States Army in World War II.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and James Naron of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Linda and Jack Drawdy of Ty Ty, Doris Ethridge of Ty Ty and Judy and Donnie Drawdy of Ty Ty; a daughter-in-law, Linda Gail Gibbs; twelve grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
