Irene C. Tierney, an 8 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of Cambridge, entered into eternal life on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Lexington following a lengthy illness. She was 82 years old.
Irene was born in Cambridge on July 6, 1931, a daughter of the late James Tierney and Catherine (Cashman) Tierney. She grew up in Cambridge where she was educated at the Fletcher Elementary School in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge Latin High School in 1950. Irene worked for over 25 years as a clerk for Cambridge Gas Company. She enjoyed reading and dancing and was an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan.
Irene is the dear friend of Patricia Dahl of Reading. She is the devoted sister of James Tierney and his wife Barbara of Melrose and the late Muriel York, Thomas, John, William and Joseph Tierney. She is also the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Irene's Funeral on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 8:45 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church, 49 Sixth St. East Cambridge at 10 A.M. Interment will be at North Cambridge Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
