August Gomes, Jr., 84, of New Bedford died Friday November 15, 2013 at home after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Doris (Francis) Gomes.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late August and Julia (Monteiro) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Gomes was formerly employed by Revere Copper Products until his retirement.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Ramos and her companion, Michael Oliveira of New Bedford, and Carol Campini and her husband, Clayton of Acushnet; three stepchildren, Lindy Lopes, John and Michael Sylvia, all of New Bedford; four brothers, Joseph Gomes and his wife Josephine, Raymond Gomes and his wife Julie, Donald Gomes and his wife Carol, and Paul Gomes and his wife Nadine, all of New Bedford; his daughter-in-law, June Gomes of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was the father of the late Stephen Gomes, and brother of the late Catherine Texeira, Louise Ramos, Mary Spinola, Arthur Monteiro, David Gomes, and Anthony Gomes.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
