Obituary

OXFORD – Sophia H. (Mozdzierz) O’Connell, 87, of 22 Linwood Street, died Sunday, September 26, in University of Mass. Memorial Health Care, Worcester, after an illness. Her husband of 54 years, Timothy L. O’Connell, died in 1998.

She leaves a daughter, Marjorie A. O’Connell, a Washington , DC, Attorney, and Son-in-law, David C. Gardner, a financial services executive; three sisters, Josephine Harrington of Webster, Rita Blair of Dudley, and Theresa Zaganiacz of Gilbertville; and generations of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters, Rose Grzyb, Emily Gromelski, Gertrude Kosnoski, and Isabel Corbin, and two brothers, Thomas Mozdzierz and Robert Mozdzierz.

She was born in Webster, a daughter of Albert and Antonia (Suss) Mozdzierz, and lived here 54 years. She attended Saint Joseph Elementary School in Webster.

Mrs. O’Connell was a lens inspector at Webster Lens Company before she retired in 1979. During her life, she was self-employed with her late husband as professional photographers and by herself in a cake decorating business. She was a member of Saint Louis Church in Webster.

The funeral will be held Friday, October 1, from Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, September 30, in the funeral home.
