William J. Young, 82, of Naples, FL, formerly of Chester, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples, after a brief illness. He was born August 26, 1931 in Manchester and was the son of the late Waldo N. and Dorothy Mae (Milton) Young. He was raised in Derry and was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy class of 1949. Mr. Young had been a resident of Chester since 1960 and a full time resident of Naples, FL for the past 8 years.
Mr. Young served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed as a Central Office Technician with NE Telephone for 35 years. He was active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Chester in the 60’s and 70’s. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, puttering around the house, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and spent time in CA, TX and AZ before choosing Naples, FL, as their second home.
Members of the family include his four children, Elaine Towle and her husband Tarrell of Chester, Thomas Young and his wife Hengyu Zhao, of Largo, FL, Jane Grimm and her husband Robert of Chester, and Andrew Young of California. Eight grandchildren, Kelsey Bayreuther, James Towle, Amelia Talbot, Tristin Redmond, Jackson Grimm, Elizabeth Grimm, Travis Grimm, and Chris Young, two great grandchildren, Clara Bayreuther and Penelope Redmond, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his companion Mary Felt of Naples, FL. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Janice (Dalton) Young in 2005 and by his 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Calling hours were held on Sunday November 17, 2013 from 3 to 6 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St. Derry, NH and a graveside service was held Monday November 18 at 11 am at Great Hill Cemetery of Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Pinkerton Alumni Association, 5 Pinkerton St. Derry, NH 03038.
