Obituary

DUNN, Vincent J., Sr.- Of Malden, November 10th. Devoted husband of Elizabeth (Pritchard). Beloved father of Vincent J. Dunn, Jr. of FL, Michael Dunn of Methuen, Richard Dunn of Plymouth, Kathleen Dunn of Malden, Stephen Dunn of Everett and William Dunn of Malden. Brother of the late John Dunn and Marjorie Surette. Lovingly survived by 7 grandchildren. Funeral from the Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem Street, (Maplewood Square) MALDEN on Friday, November 15th at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street , Malden at 9 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Carroll Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Expressions of sympathy in Vincent's name may be made to the Chelsea Soldiers Home, Patient Activity Fund, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.

A lifelong Malden resident, who enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and spent 5 tours of duty retiring on the 20th of November in 1965, Vincent, at 87 years of age, passed away at home early Sunday.

During his over 20 years of service to his country, he was awarded many medals which included the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 4 stars, National Defence Medal, 4 Good Conduct Medals as well as the Purple Heart Medal, which was created by President George Washington at Newburge, New York in 1782 and awarded to Vincent on June 8, 1944 ffor Wounds Recieved in Action.

Upon his retirement from active duty, he continued to work as a civilian for the United States Government as a painter, working for numerous years at the Navy Yards in Charlestown, South Boston and retiring from Weymouth Base in the early 1980's.

A former President of the Malden Organization of Clubs, he was a Commander twice of the Malden VFW Post 639, member of the Malden DAV and East Side AA Club.
