Rita M. (Pellegrino) Altimari, formerly of 5 Loudon Ave., Pawcatuck, died Saturday at Haven Healthcare in Norwich after a brief illness.
Mrs. Altimari was the daughter of the late Joseph and Christina (Ferravalo) Pellegrino. Raised in Westerly, she attended local schools and worked for several years for the George c. Moore co.
A dedicated Christian, she was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Pawcatuck. She was also an accomplished baker and shared her generosity with her family and friends.
She was married to John J. Altimari Jr. in immaculate Conception Church on April 26, 1941. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage before his death on November 17, 1977.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jane P. Norell of Canterbury, CT; her sister, Camela Pellegrino and two brothers, Angelo and Nick Pellegrino, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Joiner who died June 2nd, and an infant son, Joseph J. Altimari who died in 1946, and two brothers, John and Louis Pellegrino.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Pawcatuck on Wednesday at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in St. Michael New Cemetery. Visitation is private for the immediate family.
