Obituary

Edith "Ede" (McClellan) Gilson, 84 of East Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman and Hanson, wife of James S. Gilson; passed away unexpectedly on November 7th. Also known as Ede Mitchell and Ede Tobin, she was loved by many. Born December 16, 1928, to the late Edgar Cameron McClellan Sr. and the late Sarah Annis Powers, she leaves behind an identical twin, 9 minutes younger, Edna Howland of Hanson. She also leaves behind sisters Sally Doyle of Sandwich, and Maria McClellan of Hanson, and the late Edgar "Cam" McClellan Jr. of Hanson. She was the loving mother of her sons, Skip Tobin of Ipswich, William Tobin of Halifax, Thomas Tobin of Moultonborough, NH, Henry Adam Mitchell of East Bridgewater, and a daughter Kathleen Fuller of Halifax. Other sons and daughters include: Edna Green, Peter Gilson, Darlene Gilson, Douglas Gilson, Jeffrey Gilson, Gregory Gilson as well as the late Henry Everett Mitchell, and the late Allen Mitchell. She will be missed by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was retired from Austin Insurance Agency and an active member and former sexton of The First Congregational Church in Hanson. Enjoyed traveling around the country with her husband in their RV, visiting and making many friends all over. Wintered in Florida and lead the band known as the Florida SKP Resort Players. She enjoyed painting, singing, and playing music with her sisters. Always a very active woman, she enjoyed sports, the beach, but mostly being a wife, mother, and grandmother!
Everyone is invited to attend a service to celebrate her life and legacy on November 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at The First Congregational Church in Hanson, located at 639 High St. A light luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the "Foundation Fund" at the First Congregational Church in Hanson.
