Obituary

Robert C. Johnson, 77, of Sandwich passed away peacefully on Columbus Day, surrounded by his family. He loved history, travel, golf and his own good jokes. His sense of humor, intelligence, love and optimism will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sandwich on Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome. A reception will follow.

Bob was born on August 17, 1936 in Newton to Harry and Marge Johnson. He attended Newton Public Schools and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Boston University in 1958, where he was awarded Marketing Student of the Year.

He had a long and illustrious 40 year career in publishing, including many years at McGraw Hill on Business Week, many years at Dunn and Bradstreet on Control Engineering Magazine and as publisher of Boston Magazine. On Cape, however, he was better known as “super sub”, for his stint of substituting at SHS, and as head usher of St. John’s Church for many years.

Bob leaves his wife Kathy, his sister Jill, five Awesome children: Kathryn, Elizabeth, Bobby, Cindy and Katie; seven Extraordinary grandchildren: Spencer, Ryan, Tanner, Kelsey, Malcolm, Billy and Teddy and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation in his late son Kenneth Johnson’s honor.

Our family wishes to express our gratitude to all of Bob’s wonderful friends at St. John’s Episcopal Church and to his outstandingly, caring caretakers at The Pavillion in Hyannis.
