EAST TAUNTON - Jose L. Reis, husband of Maria Leonor (Soares) Reis of East Taunton, passed away at the Wedgemere Golden Living Nursing Home in Taunton on Nov. 2, 2013.
He was 78.
Born in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Acores, he was the son of the late Jose and Carmen Reis.
Mr. Reis immigrated with his wife and five children to the United States on July 28, 1973, where they resided in Taunton, Mass.
An avid soccer fan, and a passionate supporter of his beloved Benfica Eagles of Lisbon of the Portuguese Professional Soccer League, Mr. Reis enjoyed listening to live, play-by-play soccer games from Portugal on his radio every weekend.
He was a member of the Taunton Sports Club and the Taunton Eagles Soccer Club.
Employed for many years by the Nabisco Chocolate Factory in Mansfield, he retired in 1998.
In his spare time, Mr. Reis enjoyed playing cards and dominos.
In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Mr. Reis leaves three daughters, Helen Reis-Tobey of Lakeville, Yolanda Reis of Whitman, and Tanya Reis of E. Taunton; and three sons, Edward Reis of E. Taunton, Luis Reis of Franklin, and Tony Reis of Sandwich.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
