Obituary

Othella Hudson, 92, of Ocilla, died Friday, November 1, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Roberson and Elder G. E. Barton officiating. Franklin Broadhurst will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Hudson was born December 1, 1920, in Irwin County to the late Hanson and Irma Harper Hudson. A graduate of Ocilla High School, he served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was assigned to the 864th Engineer Aviation Battalion and was stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and occupied Japan. After returning home, he purchased his first farm and mastered in row crops and cattle for over 60 years. Mr. Hudson took co-op classes through ABAC and felt his responsibility was to work hard and manage the resources God had blessed him with. Together with his wife and family, he loved to travel. Mr. Hudson was very devoted to his family and was a man of strong faith. He was a member of Ocilla United Methodist Church having served as Sunday school superintendent, youth leader, and a member of the Administrative Board. He formerly attended Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years: Earlene Culpepper Hudson of Ocilla, two daughters: Janice H. & Jim Carlisle and Dianne H. Csordas, all of Ocilla, two granddaughters: Dawn & Norman Cruikshank and Heather Carlisle; three great-grandchildren: Carli, Collin, and & Camille Cruikshank; and five siblings: Vida & Bobby Dix of Ocilla, Hanson H. “Tuffy” & Jeanette Hudson of Ocilla, Huey & Barbara Hudson of Tallahassee, Florida, Mary Esther Hudson of Ocilla, and Arthur & Liz Jusko of Tallahassee, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Arthur Hudson.
