HUDSON: Paula Valdez Ramos, age 75, a 30 year resident of Hudson and retired Framingham teachers’ aide, died after a brief illness on Wednesday evening, October 30, 2013 at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westborough. She was the devoted wife of the late Carlos M. Ramos.
Born, raised and educated in Guayama, Puerto Rico, she was one of Pablo and Pilar (Ortiz) Valdez’s 17 children.
The Ramos family settled in Framingham in 1959, and ten years later Paula joined the Framingham Public Schools as a teachers’ aide. The first bilingual aide in the district, she worked with students from kindergarten through second grade for 25 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed many trips, particularly one to Germany, several to Puerto Rico and many to Florida. She was always ready for a “road trip,” adored spending time with her grandchildren and loved getting together with friends at Bingo. She was devotee of Santeria.
Predeceased by Carlos in 2011, she is survived by two daughters, Maria C. Ramos of Hudson, and Letty Ortiz of Shrewsbury; three sons, Elmo Ortiz and his wife Janette of CT, Oswaldo “Ozzie” Ortiz and his wife Lori of Shrewsbury, and Heriberto “Eddie” Ortiz and his wife Lisa; 12 grandchildren, Kelsey, Alycia, Alexandra, Bryan, Letty, Vincent, Joseph, Jaime, Corey, Alexander, Lozada, and Joseph; six sisters, Gloria Contreras, Mercedes Valdez, Cecilia Martinez, Silvia Valdez, Ursula Valdez, and Juana Morales; and many nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Tuesday, November 5th at 9:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Stephen’s Church, 221 Concord Street, Framingham, at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Stephen Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be Monday, 2 - 4 & 6 - 8p.m. Donations may be made in Paula’s memory to the Fresenius Medical Center -Dialysis Area, 360 Cedar Hill Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
