Obituary

Salem, NH- James W. Devine, 84, of Salem, NH, passed away suddenly after a short illness on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Lahey Health in Burlington, with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Marcelle M. (Dube) Devine.

Born in Lynn on November 14, 1928, James was the son of the late Thomas Devine and Ruth (Butler) Monahan. He was educated in Lynn, was a graduate of Lynn English High School, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for the federal government as a quality inspector at Raytheon in Andover for over 30 years until his retirement.

James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He was a communicant of St. Monica’s Church. He coached Little League in Methuen for many years and, in his free time, enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida to visit family.

James will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of his five children, Steve F. Devine and his wife Sherry of Norton, MA, Scott R. Devine and his wife Deanna of Andover, Cathy A. Spinney and her husband Peter of Bradford, Shawn P. Devine and his wife Marlene of Andover and Kelly J. Blackburn and her husband Robert of Methuen. He will also be deeply missed by his 13 grandchildren, Eric, Jeffrey, Michael, Brooke, Kacie, Jenna, Joshua, Adam, Matthew, Zachary, Amanda, Tyler and Nina; his brother, Thomas Devine of Lynn; and his many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was also predeceased by his sister, Regina LaFleur and his brother, Francis "Pat" Devine.

Family and friends will honor and celebrate James's life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 1- 5 PM. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 4th at 11 AM at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover.

The family has requested, in James's honor, memorial contributions be made to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, 10 Reed Street, Haverhill, MA 01832.
