Joanne P. (Riel) O’Leary, 76, of Manchester, died October 29, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home after a period of declining health.
She was born in Manchester on December 14, 1936 to Victor and Yvette (Turgeon) Riel. She lived in Auburn and Lexington, KY before returning to Manchester. She earned two master’s degrees from New Hampshire College in Hooksett.
Joanne worked as a vocational counselor for the State of New Hampshire and for GAB Business Services in Lexington, KY for many years.
She was a member of the St. Marie Church Prayer Group and an active communicant of the former O.L.P.H. Church both in Manchester. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music and time spent with her family.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Dawn O’Leary earlier this year and by a brother, Richard Riel.
The family includes three daughters, Pat Whitcher and her husband, David, of Manchester, Lily Alley and her husband, Ralph, of Hillsborough, and Anne Birk of Manchester; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchild; two brothers, Robert Riel of Glen Cliff and Roland Riel and his wife, Fran, of Manchester; a sister, Doris Proulx and her husband, Art, of Manchester; and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home, 235 Myrtle St., Manchester. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford will be at the convenience of the family.
