Helen E. (McGinn) Johnson, 80, of Worcester, formerly of South Yarmouth, passed away Tuesday, October 29th in St. Vincent Hospital. Her husband of 50 years, Harold A. Johnson, died in 2002. She leaves two sons, Harold A. Johnson, Jr. of Worcester and William P. Johnson and his wife Laurie of Auburn; five daughters, Patricia A. Johnson and her husband James Giles of Ithaca, NY, Mary Ellen Chute and her husband Paul of West Hartford, CT, H. Beth Thulin and her husband Richard of Millbury, Lynn A. Kirby of North Oxford, and Ann M. Leary and her husband Kevin of Worcester; a sister, Arline Smith of Worcester; 19 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Howard McGinn and a sister, Ruth Case.
She was born in Auburn, the daughter of Howard B. and Helen E. (Halloran) McGinn and graduated from South High School. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed her years at the Cape, but was most happy when with her grandchildren. Helen’s family would like to thank the nurses in the Critical Care Unit at St. Vincent Hospital for the compassionate care they provided.
A visiting hour will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 1st in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, followed by her funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
