SUMMERFIELD, FL – Yvette A. (Larocque) Gagnon, 89, a resident of Summerfield, Florida since 2010 and a former longtime resident of Voss Avenue and Lariviere Drive, both in the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, October 26, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at The Villages Regional Hospital in The Villages, Florida surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on July 5, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late Charles and Leonie (Fisette) Larocque. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from the former Precious Blood Elementary School and later attended Precious Blood High School, both in Holyoke. She graduated from Holyoke High School and lived in Holyoke for many years before moving to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1987. Yvette was employed for 24 years as a cook for the Holyoke School Department at the former Metcalf Elementary School on Northampton Street in Holyoke and retired around 1986. During her leisure time, Yvette enjoyed attending many local bingo games, was an avid reader, and enjoyed crocheting baby sweater sets for newborns. She and her late husband, Lester, were longtime volunteers at the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus for their monthly spaghetti suppers and other various fund raising events. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she volunteered her time as a rosary maker. Yvette was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Lester A. Gagnon, who was Called Home on October 21, 1994. They were married on September 25, 1943 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and were blessed with 51 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her loving son-in-law, Ted Osborne; and her dear brothers, Richard Larocque and Robert Larocque. She leaves her loving children, Allen L. Gagnon and his wife, Jeanne, of Kissimmee, FL and Chicopee, Daniel L. Gagnon and his wife, Elaine, of Summerfield, FL, Barbara L. Osborne of Summerfield, FL with whom she lived, Raymond L. Gagnon and his wife, Cecile, of Chicopee, and Eileen D. Timberlake and her husband, Roger, of Spottsville, KY; her 11 cherished grandchildren, Diane Pontecorvo and her wife, Mattie Pontecorvo, Catherine Gagnon, Chad Gagnon and his partner, Jen, Deena Borkowski and her husband, Tom, Steven Gagnon and his wife, Tiffany, Sarah Heistand, Ryan Heistand, Melissa Provost and her husband, Brandon, Christopher Gagnon, Charles Crowley and his wife, Jodie, and Nicholas Crowley and his wife, Nicki; her 13 cherished great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Claire Grenier of Holyoke; her dear sisters-in-law, Dottie Larocque of New Jersey and Mary Larocque of Holyoke; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Larocque and Gagnon families. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, November 2, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
