Obituary

CHICOPEE – Rita I. (Yargeau) Geoffroy, 95, a longtime resident of Sunnyside Street in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Friday, October 25, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Loomis House in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home on Victoria Park in Chicopee Falls on February 16, 1918, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph F. and Eugenie (Fontaine) Yargeau. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from the former Saint George Elementary School in Chicopee Falls, and in 1936 from Cathedral High in Springfield and lived in Chicopee Falls her entire life. During her younger years, Rita was employed at the former American Bosch in Springfield and later was a sales representative for the former Steiger’s Department Store at the Springfield Plaza. Rita enjoyed bowling and Tai Chi, but most of all she enjoyed being a loving homemaker to her family. She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls where she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. Following the closing of her beloved church, she remained strong in her faith and was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. She was predeceased by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Armand “Pepe” Geoffroy who was Called Home to the Lord on May 24, 2013. They were married on September 13, 1941 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 71 years of happiness together. She leaves her five loving children, Dolores A. Geoffroy of Dunedin, FL, Suzanne Holdsworth of Chicopee, Donald F. Geoffroy and his wife, Janice, of Southwick, George M. Geoffroy of Lyndonville, VT, and Marianne R. Nicoli of Chicopee; her seven cherished grandchildren, Lydia and Scott, Jason and Allison, Eric and his wife, Natasha, Kara and her husband, Christopher, and Kevin; her six cherished great-grandchildren, Michael and Danielle, Michael, Tyler and Linsey, and Armand. She also leaves many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Yargeau and Geoffroy families. Besides her beloved parents and husband, Armand, Rita was also predeceased by her five loving brothers, Bernard, Herman, Gerard, Charles “Gene”, and her twin brother, Richard Yargeau. In addition, Rita was also predeceased by her beloved cousin and best friend, Loretta Dube. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance is located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
