Obituary

Rita Gilbert “Jill” (St. Jean) Laliberte, of 10 Rhodes Ave., died Thursday October 24, 2013. She was the wife of the late Joseph Conrad Laliberte. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Yvonne (Legare) St. Jean and sister of the late Violet D. Kemp. Since the early 1940’s Jill held many “political” positions. A graduate of the former Hill College in Woonsocket, she first went to work for the State’s General Treasurer, Henry Roberge and went on to become the first woman personnel director in Woonsocket’s history. In1969 Jill began her job as secretary to the Superior Court Justice and stayed on at the Superior Court working for three prominent judges including Judge Weisberger. She worked on several political campaigns and also volunteered at the former Woonsocket Hospital. She was loved and admired by her friends and many nieces and nephews.

Jill is survived by her nieces and nephews, Maureen Laurie, Marcel Bessette, Jeannine Farrell, Roger Leveille, Pauline and Julian Ayotte, Jack and Lorriane Chaput, Marie Lys Chabot, Fernand and Denise Lailberte, Jeanne Bernard, and Nancy and Jim Garvey, many great nieces and nephews as well as many wonderful Friends.

Her funeral with visitation will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyr’s Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery.
