Obituary

CHICOPEE – William L. Hebert, Sr., 84, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on August 23, 1929, a beloved son of the late Ernest and Mary Rose (Pronovost) Hebert. He was raised in Holyoke and the Willimansett section of Chicopee and lived in Willimansett since around 1940. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his military service, he returned to the area and began working for Fred Piquette Contractor in Willimansett. He was a well known mason and carpenter in the Chicopee area and was also employed by Daniel O’Connell & Sons and the Doane & Williams Company. During his leisure time, he was often seen at many local bingo games and also enjoyed trying his luck with scratch tickets. He enjoyed the Patriots and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was so enthralled with his beloved Red Sox that he left this earthly world while listening to the World Series game. He was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Willimansett and currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Anne M. (McPhee) Hebert. They were married on April 30, 1955 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley and were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his loving children, Lynn A. Torcato and her husband, Patrick, Lawrence W. Hebert, William L. Hebert, Jr., Maureen M. Hebert and her partner, William Matteson, Kathleen R. Mengel and her husband, David, and Geraldine S. Cloutier and her husband, James, all of Chicopee; his nine cherished grandchildren, Patrick and his wife, Emily, Adam, Nicole, Melissa, Katelyn, Michael and his fiancée, Tiana, Tyler, Joselynn, and Desiree; his five cherished great-grandchildren, Joseph, Ashlyn, Bradley, Michael, and Mia; his dear sisters, Claire Carter and Patsy Vieu and her husband, Raymond, all of South Hadley, and Alice Skiba of Chicopee. In addition, he also leaves many dear extended members of the Hebert and McPhee families; and many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by four dear brothers and two dear sisters. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, October 28, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with US Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Committal Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimers Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
