Obituary

Shirley A. (Rice) Hendrix, 92, of Hanover formerly of Whitman, passed away surrounded by her family Wednesday October 23rd in the Norwell Knoll Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester E. Hendrix.

Shirley was born and brought up in Brockton, daughter of the late Percy and Hazel (Hyndman) Rice. She was a graduate of Brockton High School.

She was a Whitman resident most of her married life before retiring to Ocala, Florida for 16 years and recently a resident of Hanover for the past 11 years. Shirley worked in the Whitman Schools in the cafeteria and then for the Foxboro Company as a wiring inspector.

She was a member of the Whitman Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.

Shirley enjoyed baking and made many wedding and anniversary cakes, she also enjoyed scrimshaw, ceramics, painting and many other crafts.

She is survived by her sons, Roger E. and his wife Jennie of Halifax, Duane A. and his wife Kathleen of Plymouth, Jay E. and his wife Karen of Pembroke and Douglas L. and his wife Elaine of Plymouth, her grandchildren, Holly, Laurie, Carolyn, Alison, Katherine, Victoria, Marina and Ryan, her great grandchildren Amia, Anna, Hazel, Evan and Carie. She was also the sister of the late Arlene Tirrel, Muriel Peterson, Gloria Callnan and Donald Rice.

Her funeral services will be held on Monday October 28th at 11:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Knollwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Canton, MA. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-6PM. Donation may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manley St. West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
