Obituary

Irene C. Freeman, 102, of Perry, Georgia, formerly of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Summer Hill Nursing Home in Perry, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Kelly Pope, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Mrs. Freeman was born June 25, 1911, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to the late Robert Raymond and Connie Irene Harrell Dollar. Mrs. Freeman moved to Fitzgerald in 1945 and was a homemaker and a former store clerk for Cleo’s Grocery, Watson Grocery, Overstreet Grocery and Horton’s Grocery at the Cotton Mill. She moved to Houston County in 2005 to be closer to her daughter. She was a long-time member of the former Callie Garbutt Baptist Church and had attended Cornerstone Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Joann & Kelly Pope of Bonaire, Georgia and Virginia F. Driggers of Summerville, South Carolina; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: William Joseph Freeman; a son: William “Bill” J. Freeman, Jr.; two daughters: Kate Fountain and Connie Freeman; four brothers and three sisters.
