Obituary

TAUNTON – John Fernandes of Taunton, 88, formerly of North Dighton, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 19, 2013 surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of the late Celeste (Vincent) Fernandes.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late John and Josephine Fernandes.
Mr. Fernandes served in both the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during WW II.
He was employed as a manager by the former Geilich Tannery for many years, later working for Presbrey Fire Brick Works and Taunton State Hospital, before retiring.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was member of the former VFW, Post 2094 of North Dighton, a former North Dighton Little League manager, and was an avid Boston sports fan.
Survivors include two sons, John Fernandes, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Taunton, and Ronald Fernandes and his wife Debra of Tequesta, FL; a daughter, Diane Duquenoy and her husband Roger of Falmouth; a brother, Manuel Fernandes of Taunton; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend and miniature Pekinese, Snowman.
Mr. Fernandes was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Graveside Services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd at 1 p.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
