Westport – Edward Nicolau, 77, of Hemlock Street, Westport died Monday, September 20, 2004 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Marie (Souza) Nicolau for 53 years.
Mr. Nicolau was born in Fall River, son of the late John J. and Alice (Ferry) Nicolau, and had resided in Westport since 1952. He was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport. Prior to his retirement he was a foreman for various construction companies in the area and was a member of International Laborers Local Union 673 for over 50 years. A former amateur boxer with the P.A.L. in Fall River he was an avid boxing fan, enjoyed gardening and loved to take cruises and travel.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by 2 sons: Edward J. Nicolau of Westport and David M. Nicolau of Fall River; a daughter: Madeline A. Pelletier of Fall River; 5 brothers: John Nicolan of Taunton, William Nicolan of Fall River, Henry Nicolan of New Bedford, George Nicolan of Swansea and Leonard Nicolan of Assonet; a sister: Dorothy Medeiros of Readsboro, VT; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Theresa Keighley and Frank Nicolan.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, Friday, September 24, 2004 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Thursday 4 – 8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
