Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Joseph N. Gallagher, 67, died Thursday evening in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. He was the husband of Sheree R. (Hutchings) Gallagher.
Born in Gloucester on July 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Catherine L. (Moore) Gallagher. He was a lifelong resident and graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1964.
While at Gloucester High School he held the rank of 1st Lieutenant with the R.O.T.C. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served as a Jet Mechanic during the Vietnam War Era.
He was a 17 year employee of the City of Gloucester in the Department of Public Works. Before retiring in 2006, he was employed as a cross connection quality control inspector.
Being mechanically inclined he was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed spending his spare time fixing and repairing a variety of appliances including, but not limited to washers, dryers refrigerators and just about anything in that area. He especially enjoyed and was really good at fixing sewing machines and had spent some time going to school for refrigeration for which he received numerous diplomas.
He will be sadly and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife of twenty-nine years, he is survived by his son, Joseph N. Gallagher, Jr.; his sister, Kathleen (Gallagher) Ernest; brother, John A., husband of Doreen Gallagher; an aunt, Phyllis Moore; his father-in-law, Willis O. Hutchings; sisters-in-law, Darlene, wife of Andrew Bionino, Denise Peres, Geraldine, wife of Dennis Martin, Janine, wife of Robert Fiers; brother-in-law, Gary W. Hutchings; many nieces and nephews and his two American Eskimos, Tasha and Tippy. He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary Christine Gallagher, nephew, Dennis Martin, Jr. and mother-in-law, Dorothy M. (Troy) Hutchings.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
