Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Joseph Romeo Plasse, 82, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on Columbus Avenue in Chicopee on July 1, 1931, a beloved son of the late Donat and Annette (Ragotte) Plasse. He was raised and schooled in Chicopee and moved to Springfield around 1956. He was employed for over 25 years at the former Fiske Tire and Rubber Company, which later became Uniroyal, in Chicopee. Upon their closing, Joe was last employed at the Hampden County Hall of Justice in Springfield until his retirement. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Joe was a quiet man who adored his wife and family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Joyce M. (Connors) Plasse. They were married on September 22, 1956 at Holy Name Church on Dickinson Street in Springfield and were blessed with 57 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his dear brother, Richard Plasse and his wife, Joan, of Agawam; his dear sisters, Mariette Chapdelaine of Chicopee, and Rachel Nunes and her husband, Arthur, of Washington; his dear sisters-in-law, Catherine Plasse, Marion Plasse and Liette Plasse, all of Chicopee; his dear brother-in-law, Rene Racine of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his five dear brothers , Herve, Emile, Rene, Roger and Leo Plasse; and his four dear sisters, Loretta Tremblay, Jeanne Plante, Aline Racine, and Yvette Borowiec. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
