Charles S. (Steve) Thissell, 64 of Chester, NH died October 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born in Waterbury, CT on November 20, 1948 a son of the late Harold and Irene (Cote) Thissell. He had resided in Chester for the past 40 years, formerly living in Manchester, NH. He taught school at Timberlane Regional Middle School for 23 years, and also at St. Francis of Assisi School in Manchester. He retired from Pinkerton Academy in Derry in 2008. He had a love for cars, car shows and enjoyed car cruises with his wife. He was an avid fan of Duke basketball, Notre Dame football, the Red Sox, and the NE Patriots. He was an assistant basketball coach at Pinkerton Academy for many years. Mr. Thissell served on the board of directors with the NH Society for Technology in Education. He enjoyed building balsa wood planes, and building fine wood furniture. In addition, he was fanatical about anything new in technology.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice (Fournier) Thissell of Chester, his son, Jeremy Thissell and his wife Jennifer of Ashburn, VA, his daughter, Gena Richards and her husband Corey of Manchester, three grandchildren, Isabella, Alexander and Matthew, his brother, Richard Thissell and his wife Merrilee of Goffstown, NH, his sister, Linda Lee and her husband David of Rockville, CT, his mother-in-law, Wilma Fournier of St. Johnsbury, VT, his sister-in-law, Elaine Fournier of Greensboro, VT, also several nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Monday October 21, 2013 from 4 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Church, 567 Manchester Rd., Auburn. Burial followed in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester.
