Catherine L. “Kitty” Hammond, 74, died October 16, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH after a period of declining health.
She was born in Dover, DE, March 3, 1939, to Frank and Ruth (Cooper) Hartnett. She graduated from Dover High School and later from the School of Nursing at Temple University. She was employed in the medical field prior to moving to Manchester. She was part owner of MA Hartnett, Inc. of Dover, DE. Interested in antiques, she later worked part time at Resser-Thorner Antiques in Manchester.
A member of the Temple University Alumni Association she enjoyed playing cards with the same bridge group for over thirty years. She participated in weekly Yoga, Pilates and walking workouts at Rivers End in Manchester. She especially enjoyed the yearly high school reunions in Rehoboth Beach, DE with her classmates. Her family was the center of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James R. Hammond of Manchester.
Family members include four sons, James F. Hammond and his wife Jessica, of Philadelphia; Mark Hammond, of Manchester; David Hammond and his fiancée, Tarina Cato, of Evansville, IN; and Matthew Hammond and his wife Helen, of Manchester, NH; one daughter, Lee and her fiance Travis Arendse of Sedro Woolley, WA; three grandchildren, Connor Hammond, Andrew Hammond, and Lilly Fulford; a brother-in-law, Thomas Hammond and his wife Kathy, of Manchester; several nephews and nieces.
A funeral Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, October 21, 2013 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Webster St., Manchester.
Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family is especially grateful to the staff at Home Health & Hospice Care for their care and guidance during this difficult time.
