Obituary

Arline Frances (Driscoll) Atwood, age 89, of West Roxbury formerly of Mission Hill and Jamaica Plain passed away peacefully on October 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving children. Arline was born July 14, 1924 to Steve and Rita Driscoll and grew up and was educated in the Mission Hill section of Roxbury. Arline was a proud member of the "Greatest Generation" serving her country during WW II as a WAVE in the United States Navy as a Seaman First Class. After the war she met a young Marine from Mission Hill who had just returned from the war in the Pacific. His name was Lew Atwood and he danced his way into our Mother's heart and they were married on November 9,1946 in Mission Church. Arlene worked for the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department and retired after 30 + years of service. Arline loved to swim, bowl and enjoyed all senior activities. But her true love was her family. It was the foundation of her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy. She will be sorely missed but will live on in our hearts forever.

Arline was the Devoted daughter of the late Sylvester A. "Steve" and Margaret B. "Rita" (Canny) Driscoll. Devoted wife of the late Arthur L. "Lew" Atwood, Jr. Loving mother of Paul L. Atwood of Norwood, the late Stephen W. Atwood, Richard F. Atwood, Sr of Norwell, Arline M. D'Addario and her husband Louis of Franklin and Anne L. Good and her husband Paul of Medway. Cherished "Nana" of Richard F. Atwood, Jr, Amy M. Reyes, Adrian N. Atwood, Amelia N. Atwood and Kady Anne D'Addario. "GG" to Breanna, Mackenzie, and Julia Atwood and Cristian, Sabastian, and Mateo Reyes. Special "Nana Lew" to the Montanez and Veno families.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for Arline in the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home, 8 Spring Street West Roxbury on Monday October 21, 2013 from 4 PM to 8 PM. A celebration of her life will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday October 22, 2013 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John Chrysostom Church 4750 Washington Street, West Roxbury. Burial with Military Honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Due to flower restrictions at the cemetery the family request that in lieu of flowers donations in Arline's memory may be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road Waltham, MA 02451.
A special and heartfelt "THANK YOU" to all the staff at the Deutsches Altenheim in West Roxbury for the extraordinary care that they provided to our Mother during her illness and final days.
