Harold D. Polen, age 84, of Woburn, formerly of Arizona, died at the Winchester Hospital on October 12, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Born in Tulsa, OK, Harold was the son of the late Pearl (Robinson) & David Polen.
After graduating high school in Arizona, Harold joined the US Navy. Serving in Japan after World War II, Harold took much pleasure in working with the people of Japan post war. He eventually settled in Woburn and was a manager for a photography school, Lifetouch National School Studios, where he took great pride in working with the students, principals and administrators of schools throughout New England. He retired in the early nineties. He didn't slow down though, more recently he worked for Tom Wilkie and son, owners at Moore and Parker at Woburn square. He enjoyed all the business and municipal leaders who visited the store. Most of all Harold enjoyed his family and enjoyed telling stories of the colorful old west.
Harold was the beloved husband of Phyllis M. (Tortolano) Polen of Woburn. Devoted father of Karen Messina of Peabody. Loving grandfather of Brian Collins and Brooke Barreira. Also survived by one loving great grandson, Tyler Collins. Brother of the late Mary Lou Steffins and Bernice Polen. Dear uncle of Kara Coate and Henry "Bud" Steffins both of AZ. Further survived by several grand nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. WOBURN, Thursday, October 17th from 4:30 to 7:00 PM with a funeral service following at 7PM. Interment will be private.
