Martha M. Flint, 87

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Martha M. Flint, age 87, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Daggett-Crandall- Newcomb Home in Norton after a long and happy life.
Born in Mansfield, MA on July 6, 1926, she was a loving and devoted daughter of the late George B. and Ruth Alden (Walker) Flint. She was a 1944 graduate of Mansfield High School and furthered her education to graduate in 1948 from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Martha had worked for 30 years as an inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she oversaw the canning of frozen fruits and vegetables. Her duties throughout the years included a territory which stretched between New England and Florida.
She retired in 1978 to care for her mother and father, and following there deaths she returned to the working field and was employed at the VA Medical Center in Brockton, retiring in 1983.
Martha was a member of the Mansfield Congregational Church, the Mansfield Historical Society and served on the Board of Directors at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton.
She was an avid gardener who enjoyed freezing vegetables and fruits from her annual harvests, and was a familiar face at Flint Farm in East Mansfield.
Martha was a caring person who throughout the years had also taken care of elderly aunts and loved being around to watch her nieces and nephews grow up and be a big part of there’s and there families lives.
She enjoyed the splendor of simple country living and will always be remembered for her famous “Tea Lemonade”, a sure time pleaser on a hot summer day.
She was the dear sister of M. Elizabeth Hibbard and her husband Emerson of El Paso, Texas and the late Benjamin W. Flint. The dear sister in law of Marjorie Flint of Mansfield, she is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Virginia Street of Mansfield, Nancy Flint of Mansfield, Shirley Rosales of Texas, Donald Flint of Mansfield and Steven Hibbard of Australia, her adoring grand nephews and grand nieces, David Flint, Matthew Flint, Sr., Christopher Street, Colby Street, George Hibbard, Ted Hibbard, Alice Hibbard, Natalie Rosales, Stephanie Rosales and Emilie Rosales, and her great-grandnephew Matthew Flint, Jr.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, October 21st from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, the Flint family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home, 55 Newland St., Norton, MA 02766.
