Obituary

Rita M. Plante 89, formerly of 547 Clinton St. died Saturday at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Armand “Pete” L Plante. Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Hector and Aldea (Pellerin) Lemire. Rita worked as a stitcher for many years, she also was an assembler for the former ACS Industries and worked for the Woonsocket schools lunch program. Rita was honored as the 1988 Citizen of The Year. She was the first woman recipient of the Thundermist District Achievement Award for Scouting in 1984, she was the past president of the Kennedy Manor Club, and a member of the United Cadets of America Ship#10 and Alumni Club. She was a lifetime member of the St. Joseph and St. Agatha’s Senior Citizens Clubs. Rita was a very active parishioner and volunteer of the former St. Ann’s Parish, she chaired and served on numerous committees.

She is survived by two sons, Denis Plante and his wife Irene of Chepachet, and Marcel Plante of Woonsocket, a daughter Yvette Houle and her husband Gerald of Woonsocket, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Doris Tessier and Florence Grondin.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket , with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be held in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting Hours are Thursday 4-7 PM. Donations to Down Syndrome of RI, 99 Bald Hill Rd.
